Can you use a stock take off 5th Gen 4Runner Suspension on a GX470 or GX460? Posted by Mark Hawley on Nov 26th 2024 The Prado 120 and 150 suspension is the same in the rear. The front struts vary, but not by much and its only the lower mounting bolts width. It's the spacing of the tabs that the lower strut bushing fits between. The 150 is slightly wider than the 120. So a 120 strut into 150 bolts right up as the tabs just bend slightly inward. For your Prado 120, (GX470 or 4th Gen 4Runner) you must remove some material (not much) on each side of the inner steel bushing of the lower strut mount until it drops in.FYI, the difference from 120 to 150 lower strut mount is so small that most aftermarket performance suspension systems are all made to 120 specs. (Radflo, ICON etc)For the GX460 (Prado 150) no modifications are needed. The 5th Gen 4Runner suspension will bolt right up since the GX460 is a Prado 150. *as for what part of the 150 is bigger on the front suspension its in two places. #1 the lower cross bolt for the lower control arm to the frame, these are larger in diameter. #2 is the outer and inner tie rod where they thread together, the 150 is 1mm thicker. This post then had this Question from JMan5000:Q: What modifications would I need to makeA: To modify the lower bushing of a front strut made for a Prado 150, you would need a grinder like a 4.5" hand grinder. I would and have used a 36-grit flap disk to remove material from each side of the bushing's center sleeve. It doesn't take much, but just keep test fitting as you go. You are testing to see when the lower bushing with the captured center sleeve fits into the stock Prado 120 lower mount for the front strut. Try to keep each side as flat as possible, not grinding it at an angle. Once it slips in your golden, put some paint on the ground metal of the strut bushing center sleeve and install your struts. The bottom line is that you can put a 5Th Gen 4Runner take-off stock suspension on your GX470. Just grind the lower strut bushings down on the outside so they fit the space in the mounting tabs on your front lower control arms. Next, order the Metal-Tech 4x4 Stage 2 Conversion Kit, which has our Gen 2 spring mount (Aluminum center and UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight plastic) CNC machined spring perch that correctly supports the rear suspension springs pigtail, considerably better than polyurethane.
